Edward Kim

CEO

Bachelor of Chemical Engineering, Sungkyunkwan University
Ph.D of Environmental Business

Dr. Edward Kim is the Chief Executive Officer and founder of Sunsystems Co., Ltd., a company he established in 2000 and has led successfully for over two decades. Under his leadership, Sunsystems has built a strong reputation representing leading global chemical and materials companies, delivering sustained growth and market presence across Asia.

Dr. Kim began his career in the late 1980s as a technical sales professional after earning his Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Sungkyunkwan University. He later joined Monsanto Korea, where he served as Sales Manager, overseeing chemicals and materials sales in the Korean market. His role expanded to include regional collaboration across Asia, strengthening cross-border business development and strategic partnerships.

Driven by firsthand insights from customers, Dr. Kim identified critical unmet needs in ostomy care in 2010—particularly around patient discomfort and quality of life. This led him to initiate research into advanced functional adhesives in 2015. Despite early technical challenges, he persisted, and in 2018 began a collaborative R&D program with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). This effort culminated in the successful development of Temperature Sensitive Adhesive technology in 2021.

Dr. Kim holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Business from Sejong University (2022). He brings a unique combination of technical expertise, entrepreneurial leadership, and a global business network. He is fluent in English and continues to drive innovation at the intersection of materials science and healthcare.
